Sim
Schedule:
Regular Season: 7 days simmed in-game twice a week. Currently every
Wednesday and Sunday.
Playoffs: One game per team simmed daily.
Time Required Per Day:
Commissioner (and co-commissioners): a couple of hours a day.
GMs: need to check the forums regularly and not be shy to post their
own comments.
Sim Presentation:
During the regular season, detailed results are posted on the forums
with the saved game files.
During the postseason, there's a daily live presentation on IRC (#DFCHL
on Starchat) before the sim results are posted on the board.
Forms of Communication:
Forum -- we're primarily a forum based league, so private messaging
on the board is used a lot.
E-mail -- GMs can also request @dfchl.com accounts if they would like.
Various IM programs (MSN is used by a majority of GMs).
#dfchl on starchat
-- This is also available although it is mostly used for postseason
games, drafts and special events.
Language/Origin of GMs:
Approximatively 2/3 of the GMs are North American (from Canada &
US), the remaining 1/3 is European (from Great Britain, Finland, France,
Germany, Norway, Sweden...)
English is the GMs' common language.
Players.EHM Stuff:
Players.ehm is not masked.
Consistency decreases via trades are limited by a rule based on the
age of the player.
We also have an advanced Captain Meetings system (you may want to check
our Rule Book for further explanations:
http://dfchl.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=691).
Trading
Control:
Any trade which the commish has doubts about is sent to a 5-man trade
committee for approval.
Current EHM Season:
The DFCHL is currently simming its 7th season (beginning of the 2008-09
regular season).
Roster Package Used:
Based on Mole's modifications to Smetana's rosters from before the 2002-03
season,
Real prospects aren't added to later drafts.
Magazine:
The DFCMAG used to be released twice a season (you can find the Magazine
Archive here: http://dfchl.com/magarchive.htm)
with in-depth articles about teams, players, drafts, GMs interviews
etc.
We’ve switched to a News Wire system, both on the DFCHL front
page and on the board (http://dfchl.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=28).
Each GM is required to post a news item per in-game season.
Rules:
One thing you can say about us is that we like rules and we never
hesitate to add some new when we feel the game is not handling things
realistically enough or when a loophole has to be fixed. Just take a
look at our Rulebook and you'll see what I'm talking about :). Among
them:
- tactical limitations (regarding the use of H&G
and NZT);
- advanced captain meetings system (players gaining
or losing consistency depending on the nature of the meeting);
- contract limitations (maximum contract length, maximum
paycuts and Entry Contract rules based on the round the player was drafted
at);
- salary cap set at 65 million, and strict financial
approach (players salaries must remain under the players budget);
- our own budget increase/decrease system, using various
indicators (standings, profit, budget, playoffs performance, budget-standings
differential etc.);
- more comprehensive UFA rules;
- randomized goalies’ potential increases/decreases
applied to each draft class (to avoid having only *8 potential);
- a detailed Retirement System.
Hall of Fame:
The DFCHL had its first Hall of Fame Ceremony held at the end of the
2005-2006 season. HoF ballots are sent to all GMs.
Yearly Awards:
The DFCHL Players & GMs Awards, first arranged by Dan, are presented
live on IRC on the last day of the DFCHL Playoffs, after all GMs have
cast their votes in each category.
EHM Knowledge Required:
The purpose of the league is to provide enjoyment,
tragedy, laughter and heartbreak for the persons involved - the General
Managers, whether they be veterans or newbies. It's always a plus to
have some basic knowledge about EHM (FHockey EHM guides are very helpful)
but former league experience is not an absolute prerequisite as we tend
to value a lot the candidates' enthusiasm and will to learn.
There'll always be veteran GMs (including me) in the DFCHL to lend
newcomers who really want to get involved in the league a helping hand.
It's essential we keep a friendly atmosphere in the DFCHL, and as long
as you're willing to dedicate some of your spare time to make the league
forum cosy and entertaining, you'll always be welcome.
Thanks.
